PUBLIC TRANSPORT

FURTHER AFIELD

There are coaches to the main cities from Gabrovo, Veliko Tarnovo and Sevlievo, and train connections from Gabrovo, Dryanovo and Veliko Tarnovo. Links at the bottom of this page show timetables of all available journeys throughout the country, though do check with the bus/train station itself in case of last minute cancellations.

In Sofia you can get from the bus station to the airport terminals by local buses, the new Metro system, Choice Rentacar airport transfer (6 lev per person each way) or taxi (roughly 15 lev each way).

You can phone Choice Rentacar on 087 878 5665 - the operator speaks English. At the airport just go to their desk. They also do transfers to hotels.

Make sure you use official taxis and that they use a meter and display the ID card of the driver. Ask what the cost of the journey will be before getting in the cab, and don't pay until all your luggage is offloaded. The most common taxi company in Sofia is OK Supertrans. At the airport and bus station their cabs will be queuing directly outside the building. Below are some pictures of the more common fake versions.

The main bus stop in the village is the orange bus shelter just next to the community centre building.  There is a daily minibus which runs between Gostilitsa and Dryanovo, stopping at several villages on the way.  I don't have an exact  timetable but it's roughly as follows:

Gostilitsa - Dryanovo: 08.30, 14.20/14.30/15.00 (depending on the day)

Dryanovo - Gostilitsa 07.40, 13.30 (Mon, Weds, Sat Sun), 17.00

It costs 3 levs each way and takes about 30 minutes.

The bus continues beyond Gostilitsa to Burya where I believe it's possible to get a connection to Sevlievo.

From Dryanovo you can get buses further afield e.g. to Gabrovo, and trains to link with the nationwide network.
