INTERNET

TELNET

This is the main internet provider for Gostilitsa. At the end of 2017 the village was upgraded to fibre optic connection with speeds of up to 100 Mbps (in theory).

Installation involves having the fibre optic cable fed into your house from the street (you choose where exactly as they will need to drill a hole) this is then connected to a small box inside the house (again you choose where to position this). This fibre optic box then connects to your wireless router.

Signal strength depends on the quality of the device using the internet (my tablet registers up to 50mbps whereas the TV box is around 10mbps), the proximity to the router and anything in the way e.g. thick stone walls.  Generally I've found it to be sufficient to watch live TV and to use things like Skype.

There are various payment packages available with discounts for advance payment or for being on a 12 or 24 month contract. The Telnet website has lots of information but be aware that most of the plans listed are for towns only and are not available to village households.

The person who usually deals with installations is called Ivailo, a great guy who speaks good English and who is very prompt at dealing with problems. I initially had to call him back three times to sort out connection issues and each time he was there within the hour. Suffice to say, all is working properly now!

Once you are connected you can pay by direct debit or through an office in Dryanovo (see map below)
