Karlovo
Karlovo sits on the southern side of the Stara Planina mountain range, pretty much directly below the highest peak - Mount Botev. It is famous for being a producer of the famous Bulgarian rose oil, and also the birth place of Vasil Levski, whose statue can be seen in the old part of town, with gun in hand and a lion at his feet. This part of the town is very nice for a wander as it has many houses in the traditional style with ornate woodcarvings and brightly painted walls. There are various museums to see in Karlovo, and also the Suchurum waterfall (which means 'flying water') which is set in a steep ravine and easily accessed by an asphalt path. There are also narrow pathways leading up the ravine alongside the waterfall (begin by climbing the short metal ladder just off the pedestrian path to the waterfall).
